Springtime in Dixie presented us with cold, rainy weather – but then
again, it would be Springtime in Dixie without a few challenges from
Mother Nature! There were lots of horses competing, and it was one of the
best attended shows WHTJA has had in a long while! Woody was Champion in
the 1st Years with Keri Rankin in the irons. Mary Haley and Woody ended up
Reserve Champions in the younger A/O’s. Kenny and Alyson were Reserve
Champions in the Small Juniors. Toby and Hayley were Champions in the
younger Large Juniors and won the 12 – 14 Equitation on the flat and over
fences. Cates and Sarah were Reserve Champions in the younger Children’s.
Dee and George were Reserve Champions in the Older Adults. Chip and Grace
were Champions in the younger Short Stirrup. Cody and M.K. took the blue
ribbon in the Level IV Jumpers. Ultaire and Andy also took a blue in Level
IV Jumpers. Opie and Andy won V and VII Jumper classes. Congrats to all
who competed and made this a successful show!
SMF SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
This month’s sportsmanship award goes to Lauren Bishop. Lauren always has
a smile on her face and kind words to say to everyone not only at home,
but also at the horse shows. Lauren was so positive and optimistic and
sweet to all of the other exhibitors. Thank you Lauren for being so
considerate of everyone!

TURNS…THE HAMSTER”S CORNER

Congratulations to
everyone who showed at the Springtime in Dixie and Springtime Encore
shows. As usual, we were the biggest barn there, but thanks to the help of
Janet McCarroll, all went well. Andy Kocher slid right into his new
position as professional rider, and showed everyone his wonderful sense of
humor! He and Katie were the hit of the trainer’s equitation class as
“Spring Mill Man” (a.k.a. Superman) and “Spring Mill Woman” (a.k.a. Wonder
Woman). It truly was a sight to behold!
Welcome to Tracy Weisert and her new 4yr. old Westie, newly imported from
Europe. Tracy was a professional in California but has relocated to the
Mid South and joined the ranks of non-professionals.
Congratulations to the Steele family on the purchase of their new mare
Sephora, a.k.a Cates. She is big and beautiful and I know Sarah was very
excited to get into the Hunter ring on her new mount.
Hopefully everyone has rounded up their winter
clothing for their horse/pony and either sent it off to be laundered or
taken home to store until next winter. If you have not taken your items
off your door, please do so and replace with your fly sheets! We have
switched over to morning and night time turn out, so if you ride your
horse after 5:00 pm, make sure you turn him/her out once you are finished
riding IF AND ONLY IF they are in a night time turn out slot. If you have
a question as to if your horse or pony is in one of the night time slots,
just ask me and I can let you know. The turn out boards are in both barns,
so double check to see where your equine friend goes.
ANDY’S ANTICS…..
To all at Spring Mill…
Here is a quick note to say thank you to all for welcoming me to this
great barn! I am thrilled to be here and I am enjoying every minute!
Peace…
