HORSE SHOW RESULTS

The second half of Gulfport provided us with much warmer weather than the first two weeks and we were all very appreciative!  Week 3 was very successful.  Belynda Bond and Basie got great jogs in a stacked First Year Green division.  Mary Haley and Woody got ribbons in the younger A/O’s and Maura and Drafi were also very competitive in the 3’3” Amateurs.  Allie Efird was Champion in the Younger Small Junior Hunters on Cooper!  Alyson Reid and Kenny and Leah Curtiss and Bongo both got good ribbons in the Older Small Juniors.  Sarah Clifton and Zorro were fantastic competitors in the Small Ponies.  Caroline and Ricky had a great horse show in the Older Adults and have some very competitive ribbons to prove it!  Leah and Jay Jay did the Low Jr/AM.  We had the pleasure of getting to horse show with Kendall Milkey from New Hampshire, who showed her two jumpers, Dillon and Valencia!  Spring Mill also represented in the Equitation ring with Leah on Tory, Allie on Cooper, and Gillen!  Good work ladies!

Week four was super competitive being the week of the Hunter Derby!  Course looked beautiful and it was a great class!  Woody and Mary Haley were again a force in the younger A/O’s, as were Maura and Drafi in the 3’3” Amateur’s.  Cooper and Allie were Reserve Champions this week in the Younger Small Juniors.  Bongo and Leah got great ribbons in the Older Smalls, and we were so happy to have Carson reunited with Toby in the Older Large Junior Hunters!  They did great!  Carson also showed her horse Al in the unrestricted and had a blast!  Little Sarah Clifton was again a fierce competitor with Zorro in the Small Pony Hunters.  Emily Joyner attended her first horse show on her new horse Ramsey and got great ribbons in the Older Children’s.  Caroline and Ricky were again a force to be reckoned with in the Older Adult’s this week.  Go Caroline!!!  Carson, Gillen, Allie and Leah all did the equitation this week and all of them rode beautifully.  Kendall showed both of her horses and made a successful move up to the Low Juniors!  Good job to all!  Congrats to Gillen and Kenny and Allie and Cooper who competed in the USHJA Hunter Classic after the Derby.  It looked like so much fun and we are all looking forward to when the WTHJA hosts their first Classic and Derby respectively.

Week five wrapped up a great winter circuit at Gulfport for Spring Mill Farm.  Belynda and Basie were fantastic in the First Years; they got excellent ribbons with great horses competing.  Drafi and Maura were great in the 3’3” Amateurs.  Allie and Cooper gave their competitors a run for their money another week in the Younger Small Juniors.  Leah and Bongo were great yet again in the Older Smalls.  Ramsey and Emily got good ribbons again in the Older Children’s.  Leah and Jay Jay were fantastic to watch in the High Junior Jumpers, as were Kendall and both her horses in the Low Jr/AO’s.  Leah and Allie both did the equitation again and were very successful.  Congratulations to all who competed!  You made it another great Gulfport!  We had fun!

AS THE WHEEL TURNS…THE HAMSTER’S CORNER

By Caroline Milot

Well, we are finally back from Gulfport, and although I would love to say that we were fortunate to have nice weather in Southern Mississippi, I would be wrong!  We were teased with a few lovely days, but oh my goodness, I think this global warming has gone into reverse!  I am sure we had a first when the show on Friday of week one was canceled due to SNOW!  Week IV in Gulfport offered a Hunter Derby and a USHJA Hunter Classic on Friday.  It was very exciting and Hunter Ring I was adorned in true Derby style with trees, a working gate, a log pile to trot, coops, etc.  Anyway all in all, it was a great circuit and everyone did very well, filling our seating area with ribbons galore!

Now with the nicer weather upon us, and people coming out later to ride, again, I ask everyone to PLEASE CLEAN UP YOUR WASHRACK AFTER YOU RIDE! Our guys are off duty as of 5 P.M., so if you are here after that time, there is no one who will clean up after you if you don’t do it yourself!!!!!  No one likes to walk into the barn the next day to messy wash racks, dirty tack left out, dirty towels, etc…  We all want Spring Mill Farm to look beautiful, so PLEASE, everyone pitch in!!!  Also, we will be switching to morning & night turn out within the next couple weeks, so if your horse or pony is in a night time turn out slot and you are here riding after our staff (guys) are gone, it will be your responsibility to turn your horse or pony out in their paddock.  If you have any questions about where your horse or pony goes, ask Caroline or Lindy.

The new 2010 horse show schedules will be ready soon.  I will post them on the corkboard in the top barn.  Please help yourself to a new schedule so you can start making your plans for the 2010 show year!

For those of you who have not gotten their new 2010- USEF/USHJA membership cards for themselves and their horse or pony, now is the time to renew before the April shows start.  As always, renew on line since you can immediately print off temporary cards for yourself and please make me a copy of your new cards for the SHOW BIBLE.  If I do not have copies of your new cards, I will not be able to check you in at the shows.  The WTHJA show circuit starts off under new management and we are hoping to attract a whole new crowd of exhibitors, SO IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT SPRING MILL FARM GETS OUR ENTRIES TO THE HORSE SHOW BY THE POSTED CLOSING DATE!!!!  That being said, if you plan on attending any of our WTHJA shows, please have your completed entries to me at least two days before the closing date which is printed on each entry blank.

Memphis in May entries are due April 24th.  The two Brownland Farm Spring Time shows generally sell out quickly, so if you are interested in attending either of these shows, please get your entries to me A.S.A.P.  The official closing date for those two shows is April 7th for the first week and April 14th for the  second week, but like I said they generally sell out before that date, so I will need to know well in advance who wants to attend for each week so I can call and reserve stalls.

We welcome to Spring Mill Farm Carson Cash’s BIG equitation horse Apropos, A.K.A. Al.  Carson and Al were able to get into the show ring in Gulfport, way to go!

Maura Smith also came home with a new equine partner, Dillon.  She is leasing him for three months so say hello and welcome him to Spring Mill Farm.
