HORSE SHOW RESULTS

Once again, Spring Mill Farm had a successful week of showing at Memphis in May, the 5th through the 9th.  We ended up winning the battle of the barns competition.  Thanks to all who came and participated.

In the professional classes, we had Maura Smith’s horse Basie competing in the 1st Years with Maggie.  He got good ribbons both days and picked up a 7th and an 8th in the two open hunter classics.  In the 2’6” special hunters, Manrin and Elizabeth Rain’s Pappy was Champion and Graf was Reserve.

We had lots of success in the Junior and A/O Divisions.  In the A/O’s, Mary Haley and Woody won a class and received other good ribbons.  They were also 1st and 3rd in the Modified Junior/Am’s.  In the Small Junior Hunters, Allie and Cooper won two classes and ended up Reserve Champions.  In the Large Juniors, Carson and Toby won a class and ended up Reserve Champions, as well as 3rd in the Classic.  Carson also moved back into the Junior ranks on her horse Al.  They received good ribbons in numerous classes.  For the first time, Allison and Wizard along with Emily and Ramsey stepped up to the Junior Hunters.  Both girls were fantastic and received numerous ribbons.  Way to go girls!

In the Equitation, Caroline Gillen won the USEF Junior Medal.  Great Job!  In the same medal, Haley Bishop was 4th and Carson was 5th.  Haley and Carson also placed 4th and 5th in the Maclay respectively.  In the THIS Medal, Allison Drexler won and Emily Joyner was 4th.  Competing in the 12 – 14 Equitation was Liz Capocaccia, Grace Upshaw and Haley Dutch.  All received good ribbons.  Sarah Clifton won the WTHJA Pony Medal, was 4th in the USEF Pony Medal and3rd in the WIHS Pony Equitation.  Just an Equitation power house!  Keep up the good work everyone!

On to Pony land!  Sarah Clifton and Zorro were Champion in the Small’s and 7th in the Classic.  She was also Reserve Champion on her own Double Whammy in the Medium and 5th in the Classic.  Elizabeth and Rounder were Champions in the Small/Medium Green’s and 4th in their Classic.  Liz Capocaccia and her pony Touch of Grey competed in the Children’s Pony Hunters and received good ribbons.  Excellent job girls!

Next up the Children’s and Adult’s.  In the Pre Child/Adult, we had Elizabeth Rains and Graf.  They were the winners in an under saddle and 2nd over fences along with other good ribbons.  Grace Upshaw and Blue Grass were Champions and Haley Dutch and George were Reserve Champions.  In the Children’s Hunters, Becky Flax and Gandy received a 2nd and other good ribbons as well as a 3rd in the Classic.  In the younger Adults, Sara Stephens and Pierce received 2nds, 3rds, 4ths as well as a 7th in the Classic.  Awesome job everyone!

And last but not least our beloved jumpers!  Caroline Gillen competed in the High Jr/AO’s on Janet McCarroll’s Ultaire.  She did a fantastic job receiving good ribbons.  Maida Clifton and Opie were Reserve Champions in the .95m and the 1.1 m jumpers receiving numerous blue ribbons.  Suzy Hoyt and Jake were Champions in the 1.15m and Reserve in the 1.1m, also winning numerous classes.

We had an excellent show from everyone.  Can’t wait for the next one.  Keep up the good work at home and hopefully all shows will be this successful.

Welcome to Redford, Tracy Treace is helping him rehab, so he is enjoying being turned out and grazing on Tennessee’s green grass!  Mary Haley has fallen in love with Oreo, the spotted horse.  He is a real cutie, so there may be a second horse in Mary Haley’s future!  We would also like to welcome Courtney Martino, originally from Pennsylvania and her mare Verona.  Courtney and Verona compete in  the jumpers, so welcome and good luck.  Welcome back to our most wonderful working student Amy Ripple!  We’ve missed you tons!!!  Its fun having Natalie Burton back out at the farm riding this summer.  She’s graduated from law school, way to go!  We also have Lizzie Aycock back in the fold too, after her second year at college.  All our “kids” are growing up!

Congrats to the Devon competitors, Leah Curtiss on Cabana Boy, Allie Efird on Cooper and Caroline Gillen on Janet McCarroll’s Ultaire!

The two Tunica horse shows in June are fast approaching.  If you plan on attending, make sure your horse or pony has a fly sheet that will go with them to the shows.  The flying critters can be very pesky down in the delta, and we often fly sheet the horses in the evenings.  Don’t forget to pack your own supply of repellent for yourself.

Let’s all work together to keep our barn/wash racks clean and inviting.  It only takes a moment to sweep out the cross ties that you have used, BEFORE AND AFTER you ride.  Remember no one likes to walk into a dirty wash rack!  Thanks to everyone who does pitch in and help keeps Spring Mill Farm looking good!
